Being completely cured implies that you can return to your previous wreckless habits, and not feel the effects. But, that's just not the case with diabetes, or any chronic deteriorating disease for that matter.
The bottom line here is that you must continue to eat healthy to stay healthy. However, you can enjoy some of those comfort foods every once in a while without causing any major damage.
