Author's Perspective on Diets: I didn't really look forward to going on a diet. But, at that time, I was desperate to improve my health and hopefully save my eyes, kidneys and legs. So my endocrinologist sent me to a dietitian after I got out of the hospital. While I was waiting for the dietitian in her office, a rather large hefty woman (I'd say about 350 pounds) waddled over and told me she was the dietitian!

When I asked her what kind of diet she was going to put me on, she said "The same 1200-calorie diet that I'm on." I almost broke my knee trying to get out of her office.
FYI: In my experience, dietitians tend to be more calorie-focused and don't really understand the science of nutrition. True nutritionists tend to be more science-based and have some understanding of disease pathology. But, neither really understand the science of diabetes. And, unfortunately, most diabetes educators are even worse! They tend to really push the drugs big time! Plus, they get frustrated when you ask them questions that they can't answer -- much like some of the doctors.
Thanks to my daughter, who bought me several books on diabetes, I quickly realized that it was up to me to do the research and figure out how to get my diabetes under control.

Notes:
The majority of these diets contained at least one or two major flaws that prevented them from being beneficial to diabetics.
The author used attributes from some of the diets in bold text to design his "
Super Meal Model Diet. In addition, he also purposely ignored some of the key attributes from those diets because they actually did more harm than good.
Please Note! In some cases, diabetics thought that "the diet" was "the solution" to their diabetes, i.e. the Raw Food Diet. No!!!! The diet (or the proper nutritional profile) is only
part of the solution! Unfortunately, the over-marketing of some of these diets give the false impression that they have the complete solution to reversing your diabetes! But, they don't!
