The Reverse Diabetes Program: The 10 Steps and 6 Stages
Author's Perspective: After I came out of the coma and was told that I was diabetic, I must admit that it was very intimidating and overwhelming when I realized everything that I would have to learn how to do in order to manage my diabetes. Trying to navigate through all of the various activities every day was very confusing and difficult to remember at times.
There was so much to remember!: from pricking my finger 6-8 times a day, to recording the blood glucose readings, analyzing the readings, injecting myself with insulin 4 times a day, taking other medications (i.e. Coumadin, Lipitor), planning meals, preparing the meals, shopping for groceries, making doctor appointments, recordkeeping, and finding time to exercise. Whew!
Luckily for me, my mother, daughter and sister were there (after I got out of the hospital) to help with the grocery-shopping, meal preparation, cooking, and taking care of the house.
Because of their help, I had time to do a lot of research. During my research, I was surprised to discover that there was no structured, systematic step-by-step process that would guide me through managing my diabetes on a daily basis.
As a result, once I got well and decided to write the book, I decided to develop a structured step-by-step process and a set of charts and templates so that other diabetics would not be as overwhelmed as I had been.
This led me to define a diabetes management process, based on 7 wellness factors and the key activities that a diabetic should perform on a daily basis in order to effectively manage his/her diabetes, e.g. nutrition, exercise, testing, detox, supplementation, support, wellness planning.
That, in turn, led to me to develop the 6-stage model, the 10-step program process, my multiple-therapy approach, the super meal plate model, and my train-the-trainer program for diabetics, non-diabetics, health advocates and other healthcare professionals.
The 6-stage model provides an overall guide of multiple alternative therapies and what to do on a monthly basis. The 10-step model (below) provides a guide of what to do on a daily basis. The program's 3 levels provide different levels of severity and activities based on your specific health needs.
The multiple-therapy approach enables attacking of the disease on multiple fronts and provides flexibility for the client. As depicted in the diagram towards the bottom of this web page, multiple (targeted) therapies include nutrition, juicing, detox, exercise, supplementation, spiritual, health coaching, etc.
As a result, my Death to Diabetes Wellness Program is a complete and comprehensive program because it utilizes all eight dimensions of the Wellness Wheel (which is described on the Western Medicine vs. Alternative Medicine web page).
FYI: Most diabetes programs only address 3 or 4 dimensions of the Wellness Wheel.
In addition, the Death to Diabetes Wellness Program utilizes all four pillars of Integrative Medicine:
- Interpersonal Relationships
Author Sidebar: I designed this diabetes wellness program to be comprehensive enough and flexible enough to be used to address other diseases and health issues besides Type 2 diabetes, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, chronic fatigue, obesity, heart disease, cancer, and other types of diabetes.
You have a problem: it's diabetes; and, it's a rotting disease.
Mr. McCulley has the solution to your problem: his Death to Diabetes Wellness Program, which stops the rot.
That's the way engineers think -- give them a problem, and they give you a solution.
They use their engineering skills, analytical skills, test data, clinical research, their experience, and their understanding of diabetes pathology, medical sciences, and how the body works (physiology), to design a unique solution to your health problem that actually works -- to reverse your diabetes!
And, if you don't believe that Type 2 diabetes is reversible, then, read the Clinical Studies web page, and what some medical doctors are now saying!
But, Mr. McCulley did more than find a solution to reversing Type 2 diabetes. Because he focused on how to strengthen the immune system and several other wellness principles (based on how the body repairs, heals, and fights disease), he developed a program (and a 3,000-page book) called "Death to All Diseases".
However, he couldn't publish a 3,000-page book, so he extracted his wellness strategies and diabetes-specific information to develop the book called "Death to Diabetes".
The Death to Diabetes book is designed to help reverse your diabetes as well as prevent or reverse the complications of diabetes, as long as you haven't waited too long to begin your recovery.
In addition, the book can be used to address most systemic diseases and illnesses, e.g. heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, cancer prevention, arthritis, fatigue, kidney problems, eye problems, nephropathy, neuropathy, etc.
Did You Know That?: The "Death to Diabetes" book has become one of the top-selling diabetes books in the country while helping thousands of diabetics. "Death to Diabetes" has recently been rated as one of the top-rated medical books and top-rated health books in the country, by several medical groups and health groups! The book is now being sold internationally in countries such as the United Kingdom, Canada, Italy, South Africa, India, China, Australia, and Brazil.
The Death to Diabetes Wellness Program (documented in the DTD book) is based upon a well-structured and results-driven 6-stage medical and integrative wellness model, based on the wellness principles of Diabetes Management, Western Medicine, Alternative Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM).
This 6-stage medical & alternative health wellness model is designed for the diabetic and his/her doctor to better track their progress. This model is also designed to allow the diabetic to go beyond just controlling the disease to help repair/heal the body and possibly reversing the disease by utilizing multiple alternative therapies, i.e. nutrition, detox, juicing, meditation, exercise, spirituality, etc.
This wellness model utilizes the medical standard for blood glucose testing combined with superior nutrition, proper exercise, frequent blood glucose testing/analysis, spiritual health, periodic doctor visits and physical exams.
This model takes the best from Western Medicine, Alternative Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) to develop an optimum and user-friendly program for the diabetic, and for the doctor.
This model includes a superior nutritional model (called the Super Meal Model for Diabetics or Reverse Diabetes Diet) that encompasses attributes of several well-known diets, including the South Beach Diet, Mediterranean Diet, and Raw Food Diet.
As a result, the Death to Diabetes Wellness Program (aka Reverse Diabetes Program) is more than a diabetes program! It is a wellness program that both diabetics and non-diabetics can use to improve their health.
The Death to Diabetes program is not a weight loss program. As previously mentioned, this program is a wellness program with multiple therapies. This program focuses on how to improve the wellness and overall health of your body. Your body will either lose weight (or gain weight) in order to achieve overall wellness.
Note: You do not have to be overweight to be diabetic. Almost 11% of Type 2 diabetics are not overweight. That's why it's important to follow a wellness program such as the Death to Diabetes Program instead of a weight loss program!
Unfortunately, most diabetes programs focus strictly on weight loss and calorie/carb counting instead of how to either prevent the disease or how to attack the disease and improve the body's overall health.
This reverse-diabetes wellness program uses multiple therapeutic strategies to attack this disease and break the "cycle of diabetes". Those therapeutic strategies include: optimizing the nutrition, reducing the cellular inflammation, periodic detox, repairing the gut, balancing your hormones, blood glucose testing & data analysis, other blood testing & analysis, increasing your metabolism and energy levels, improving rest/sleep/relaxation quality, and providing emotional/spiritual support.
Even if you're only pre-diabetic, the Death to Diabetes program can still help you prevent your body from becoming full-blown diabetic. In addition, the Super Meal Model diabetic diet is very flexible and customizable so that you can adjust the macronutrient balance and percentages to gradually increase muscle mass, maintain your current weight, or lose weight (if you're overweight).
The creator of this Super Meal Model (Plate) used his engineering prowess to integrate several powerful engineering methodologies with various medical sciences to take integrative and alternative medicine to an entirely different level of effectiveness. This has dramatically increased the success rate of the Death to Diabetes program for thousands of diabetics, improving the quality of their lives physically, emotionally, and financially.
Note: The purpose of this model was not to reinvent the wheel, but to use the best that medical science and nutritional science have to offer. And, frame it in a structured model that would allow for easier tracking and identification of the need for corrective actions -- to achieve sustained blood glucose stabilization, reduced insulin resistance, reduced inflammation, increased energy production, and optimum health.
Note: The "heart" of this reverse-diabetes wellness program is a true diabetic diet or nutritional program for diabetics, that is more than just a diet for diabetics. This diet is truly the most comprehensive diet available to diabetics and others (non-diabetics) that can be used for fighting diseases such as heart disease, kidney disease, nerve disease, eye disease, and obesity.
This diabetic diet is anti-inflammatory, anti-heart disease, and anti-cancer. This diet is an overall wellness diet that focuses on how to improve your overall health and wellness -- since most of these diseases are driven by poor eating habits and the lack of critical nutrients for the body. As a result, this diet will help to prevent many diseases beyond just Type 2 diabetes.
This Death to Diabetes Wellness Program is a well-structured 6-stage, 10-step model with a roadmap that guides you on your journey and lets you know exactly where you are in the program so that you know how far you've come and how much further you have yet to go.
This program is designed to, first, get your diabetes under control; then, stop the progression of your diabetes, and, then, reverse your diabetes. This is all accomplished in stages. Why?
Because you can't go from being diabetic to reversing your diabetes in one big jump!
Note: For more details about the science behind this program, refer to the Science Behind the Program web page.

Note: For any healthcare professionals who want to help diabetics, feel free to contact our education department about one of our diabetes health coaching training programs.
Author's Sidebar: I was a Type 2 diabetic engineer who almost died from a diabetic coma with a 1337 blood glucose level. I was on insulin, Lipitor (a statin), Coumadin (blood thinner) and other drugs. Needless to say, things didn't look good for me.
But, I was fortunate because of my mother, my daughter and, my background in biochemistry. As a result, I was able to develop a nutritional protocol that allowed me to safely wean off the drugs, defeat my Type 2 diabetes and shock the doctors. Today I take no drugs with a blood glucose average of 87.5 and an A1c of 4.75%.
I wrote the top-selling book ("Death to Diabetes"), but, there's no need for you to buy my book if you still have doubts after watching my videos and reading the testimonials from diabetics and doctors. Just follow the steps of my program on this website.
Within 14-21 days, you will notice your blood glucose level coming down. Hopefully, that will motivate you to continue with the program and get the book. If you have any questions, just call our office's toll-free number (1-800-813-1927). One of our staff (author, certified diabetes educators, diabetes health coaches) will answer your questions and provide guidance.
FYI: I believe that I was put in this position to help other diabetics. And, there is so much misinformation out there about diabetes, the drugs, the food, etc. -- it's a ball of confusion that creates anxiety, fear, frustration, and apathy.
When I was diabetic, a lot of people meant well trying to help me. But, they lacked the true knowledge about the science of diabetes and nutrition, specifically cellular biology, pathophysiology and pathogenesis. I realized that I needed to leverage my own knowledge of science if I was going to beat this and save my eyes and legs.
So, if you're ready to get started to improve your diabetes, review the program's 10 steps (below); and, get our free diabetes ebook to try the first part of the program (before purchasing the book).
Most diabetes programs provide one of three solutions for type 2 diabetics: (1) drugs; (2) surgery; or (3) diet/lifestyle changes.
Unfortunately, drugs and surgery don't work because they don't address the actual root causes of the disease. Some diabetics will experience lower blood glucose levels, but their bodies are still biochemically and hormonally diabetic. Surgery is expensive and risky. Drugs may not appear to be expensive or risky in the short term, but over the long term drugs are expensive and risky.
Similarly, the majority of the diet/lifestyle programs don't work either because the nutritional profiles of these programs don't really attack and destroy the disease. Again, diabetics will experience lower blood glucose levels, but their bodies are still biochemically and hormonally diabetic. Most of these programs tend not to be expensive or risky, but, over the long term, since the majority of these programs don't work, there is some expense and risk involved.
The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is one of the few programs that actually addresses the real root causes of Type 2 diabetes, e.g. chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, oxidative stress, protein glycation, excess toxicity, leptin resistance, etc.
As a result, the program is very effective because of its comprehensiveness and thoroughness.
In addition, this program is inexpensive as long as you adhere to the program guidelines.
The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is based upon a well-structured and results-driven 6-stage medical wellness model.
This 6-stage medical wellness model is designed for the diabetic and his/her healthcare team to better track their progress. This model is also designed to allow the diabetic to go beyond just controlling the disease to help repair/heal the body and possibly reversing the disease by utilizing multiple alternative therapies, i.e. nutrition, detox, juicing, meditation, exercise, etc.
This wellness model utilizes the medical standard for blood glucose testing combined with superior nutrition, proper exercise, frequent blood glucose testing/analysis, spiritual health, periodic doctor visits and physical exams.
This model takes the best from Traditional Medicine, Integrative Medicine, and the best from Complementary Alternative Medicine (CAM) to develop an optimum and user-friendly program for the diabetic, and for the doctor.
This model includes a superior but flexible nutritional model (called the Super Meal Model for Diabetics) that encompasses attributes of several well-known diets, including the South Beach Diet, Mediterranean Diet, and Raw Food Diet. Based on your health needs, blood test results, and hormonal levels, this program can be easily modified and customized to meet your health needs and optimize your health.
The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is a well-structured program designed by an ex-diabetic engineer, who utilizes approved medical protocols and leverages several areas of medical science, including the pathophysiology of Type 2 diabetes, epidemiology, etiology, and morbidity and mortality rates.
The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is a science-based program that utilizes the latest research in nutritional science and various engineering methodologies. In addition, there are more studies and reports coming out that diabetes can be reversed!
The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is designed for you to achieve blood glucose stabilization. Any program can lower your blood glucose, but, can it help to stabilize your blood glucose?
Some programs overlook the importance of consistent readings without a lot of variation -- this is known as a standard deviation in mathematics. It is very important to have a small deviation or swing of readings -- this is known as blood glucose stabilization.
For example: Person A has readings of 60 and 140 for an average of 200/2 or 100. Person B has readings of 100 and 110 for an average of 210/2 or 105. On the surface, you may think that Person A is better off because his average is lower than Person B's. But Person A has a wider swing of 80 points (from the norm of 100), while Person B's swing is much less: 10 points. Consequently, Person B is doing a better job at managing his diabetes and stabilizing his blood glucose.
This program is also a spiritual-based program that recognizes the importance of faith and the belief in a higher power; and, your ability to tap into your own inner spirit or spirituality.
This program also recognizes the importance of emotional support to provide real hope and fuel one's inner drive to take responsibility and accountability of their own health; and, learn how to reduce the stress in their lives.
The Death to Diabetes® Wellness Program is not a diet -- it is a wellness program that is designed to improve your health to eventually achieve optimum wellness. This is important to understand, especially since most diets don't work, and the ones that do work, only work temporarily.
The program also includes a health coaching and train-the-trainer program kit for people in the wellness industry who want to help others and grow their own business.
The foundation of the Death to Diabetes Wellness Program encompasses a unique 3-dimensional (3-D) approach that includes:
(1) A 6-stage model that tracks the diabetic's overall progress;
(2) Three (3) levels of severity for a lesser or more strict regimen;
(3) A 10-step process that guides the diabetic through day-to-day management of the disease.
Here is a pictorial representation (roadmap) of the program and its 3 dimensions:
FYI: The (green) boxes in this diagram map directly into specific chapters of the Death to Diabetes book.
This is the only known science-based wellness program that provides such a well-structured and in-depth blueprint (roadmap) from illness (Stage 1) to wellness (Stage 6) that any layman can follow.
Stage 1 No BG Control: is the stage where the majority of diabetics usually find themselves in the beginning, with an average fasting blood glucose (BG) level that is greater than 126 mg/dl or an oral glucose test measurement greater than 200 mg/dl. During this stage (and the next 2 stages), you must avoid all of the 5 "dead" foods as much as possible.
Stage 2 BG Control with Drugs: is the stage where most diabetics transition to when they underestimate the disease and are unable to improve their cell health and control their blood glucose level with nutrition and exercise. During this stage the diabetic and his/her doctor are trying to use drugs to help lower the diabetic’s blood glucose level and eventually bring it within the normal range.
Warning! This is the stage where most diabetics fall in love with their diabetic drugs, cholesterol-lowering statin drugs, and high blood pressure drugs. Why? Because these drugs actually work as advertised! They lower your blood glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure! So, most diabetics think that they're actually getting healthier!! But, you're not! The drugs create a false sense of security and a strong belief that the drugs are the answer. Eventually, you'll find yourself taking even more drugs! Have you ever heard of anyone getting better from taking more diabetic drugs?
Stage 3 BG Control with Reduced Drugs: is the next stage for a diabetic to reach after he/she realizes that drug therapy is not the long-term answer. Most diabetics are able to lower their blood glucose level and reduce some of the dosage levels for their prescription drugs during this stage. In fact, many diabetics experience weight loss and consistent lower blood glucose readings during this stage.
But, it actually becomes a more difficult battle because the cells still have to deal with the disease and the drugs, even though the diabetic is taking less drugs. The drugs continue to fuel the diabetes and create an impedance to the body’s healing process.
Stage 4 BG Control with No Drugs: is the most difficult stage for most diabetics to reach. But those who embrace the program and follow the steps outlined in Chapters 14 and 15 reach this stage by being able to consistently control their blood glucose with nutrition and exercise and the need for no drugs. They are able to reduce the amount of insulin resistance and inflammation in their cells, enabling their body to repair the cells and the cellular/tissue damage caused by the diabetes.
During this stage, diabetics are able to achieve and sustain blood glucose stabilization. This is key, because it allows the diabetic to build momentum with improving their overall health, including their blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
During this stage, your diabetes will be in remission and will remain in remission as long as you don't regress to a previous stage.
Unfortunately, some diabetics relax during this stage because they are not aware that there is still work to be done to actually reverse and eradicate the disease, or, at least, sustain blood glucose stabilization.
As a result, they regress back to Stage 1 when their average glucose level eventually rises above 126 mg/dl and remains there.
Stage 5 BG & HbA1C Control: is the stage for diabetics to go beyond controlling to actually reversing their diabetes. This stage indicates that the average blood glucose level and hemoglobin A1C are both consistently within the normal range without the need for any drugs. This stage is easier to achieve once you've reached Stage 4 because your body is no longer fighting the disease and the drugs!
Stage 6 BG & HbA1C Tighter Control+: is the final stage to achieve complete reversal. This stage indicates that the cells are healthy as the average blood glucose level and hemoglobin A1C are consistently within a tighter range without the need for any drugs; and, the disease is totally reversed – no insulin resistance and no inflammation.
In addition, other critical health parameters are within their normal ranges, e.g. blood pressure, body mass index (BMI), minerals, enzymes, homocysteine, cholesterol.
Note: In order to reach the final stage, you must have completed all 10-steps of the program as explained in Chapter 16 (Page 329). In most cases, this requires the use of (some) raw foods, raw juicing, periodic cleanse/detox, targeted wholefood nutritional supplementation, regular exams/blood tests, and emotional support as explained in Chapters 8, 9, 11, 13, 14, and 15.
Note: You'll know that you have reached Stage 6 (and your diabetes has been completely reversed) when you are able to eat (some) "dead" foods without experiencing any blood glucose spikes. In addition, your average blood glucose must be under 100 for 6 consecutive months, post-meal blood glucose must be under 110, A1C under 5.4%. In addition, your blood pressure, cholesterol, BMI and cardiac risk inflammation markers must be in the normal range. By maintaining these metrics, you will prevent the onset of diabetic complications with the eyes, nerves, kidneys, and cardiovascular system.
Based upon the etiology of Type 2 diabetes, the analysis of its pathogenesis, and the sciences of disease, including pathophysiology, pathological anatomy, biochemistry, and psychopathology, the above diagram provides a high level overview of the six stages and the eight “living” elements of Type 2 diabetes control and reversal. This model is very flexible and can be customized to suit your health needs and lifestyle; and, can be used by you and your doctor to better track your progress.
Timeline from Stage 1 to Stage 6
In general, it will take more time to get from Stage 1 to Stage 4 than from Stage 4 to Stage 6 because it will take more time for the body to overcome the effects of the drugs and repair the cells and reduce the insulin resistance/inflammation during the early stages.
Once the body has started to heal, you can accelerate the timeline by utilizing multiple therapies, i.e. raw foods, juicing, detox, nutrition.
As you progress through each stage of the wellness program, your average blood glucose level will gradually return to the normal range, and your body will repair and rebalance itself, while preventing further damage and complications.
How long it takes for the body to repair and heal from the damage caused by the diabetes is dependent on several key factors including:
- How long the person has been diabetic
- How many medications the diabetic is taking
- The amount (dosage) of each medication
- Avoidance of processed foods, and other "dead" foods
- The number of Super Meals and Super Snacks that the diabetic consumes on a daily basis
- The age of the diabetic
- The frequency of blood glucose testing/analysis
- How many of the 10-steps you've implemented
- The program's level of severity that you've implemented based on your overall health.
- The number and types of other complications, i.e. high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obesity, eye health issues, nerve health issues, cardiovascular health issues, kidney health issues, etc.
Note: Accelerating the repair process is especially important for people who want to wean off the drugs as soon as possible.
Note: The combination of eating mostly raw foods and drinking raw juices can help to accelerate your body's repair process and help to reverse your diabetes in less time. In fact, you should notice your blood glucose level starting to come down during the first week of the Death to Diabetes Program! -- as long as you are following the entire program, not just the juicing component.
Author's Perspective about the 6 Stages of his Program:
Most diabetics are happy to reduce their blood glucose to the normal range and lose some weight -- but, they're still dependent on the drugs to keep their blood glucose in the normal range!
Remember that the primary goal of my program is to get healthy with blood pressure and blood tests readings in the normal range (Re: Chapters 3, 11, 14, 15).
When your body is healthy, the weight comes off as a by-product of being healthy! When your body is healthy, it no longer needs the extra fat or the drugs.
Eating healthy is more than reducing your calorie intake! I reduced my calorie intake to 1200 calories a day but my blood glucose didn't come down, I couldn't lose any weight, and I still required 4 insulin shots a day! After some research and self-testing, I realized that it was more about the quality of the food than the calories.
Note: The over-focus on calories is misunderstood and misapplied with most diet s and diabetes programs -- that's why they don't work! Reducing one's calorie intake does not stop the diabetes pathology from progressing in the body. The key is the quality and types of food that contain the missing nutrients that diabetics need for their bodies to address the underlying root causes of their diabetes. These missing nutrients help to initiate the healing and repair processes in the body and repair the damage caused by the diabetes. That, in turn, allows the diabetic to get the disease under control, stop its progression, and stop the spread of cellular damage. Once the progression of the disease is stopped, this provides the diabetic with the opportunity to reverse the disease pathology.
Besides eating properly, most people overlook some of the other key components of my program -- assuming the diabetic's objective is to get off the drugs and achieve Stage 4. [Re: Chapter 3 (the science of diabetes), Chapter 9 (how to detox properly), Chapter 11 (the critical blood/hormone tests), etc.]
Don't expect your doctor to support you and lower your drug dosage during Stage 2 and Stage 3. It's up to you to take responsibility. Unless your doctor is unique, he/she won't be happy to see you get off the drugs. If you can afford it, increase your BG testing -- you can project your A1C if you test frequently enough.
As explained in Chapters 11 and 14, the real litmus test is two-fold: (1) What is your blood glucose 2 hours post meal; and, (2) What is your blood glucose without the drugs. That will give you a better sense of what you need to focus on.
Remember, the drugs artificially lower your blood glucose! The diabetes is still wreaking havoc on the inside! The drugs are just a cover-up to give you a false sense of security! Don't fall into that trap! Re-read Chapter 3 especially; and, also Chapter 12 -- about the drugs and what they really do.
Once you reach Stage 4, your doctor may not be happy with you. But, who cares? You're healthier now. So, keep moving forward on your journey to wellness -- you're on the road to repair, recovery, and reversal (The 3 R's).
More About the DTD Wellness & Reversal Program
There are some misunderstandings about this program. First of all, this program is not a traditional diet or weight-loss program. It is a "get-well" program. If a person is overweight, they'll lose weight as a byproduct of "getting well". If a person needs to gain weight, they'll gain weight -- again, as a byproduct of "getting well". However, we do recommend that such a person get a complete physical exam to ensure that they're not losing weight because of some serious medical condition.
Also, the Death to Diabetes program is a relaxed and flexible program, not a strict, regimented program. It may appear to be overly strict because of the structured approach and the live/dead foods. But, this program gives you some flexibility by including some of your favorite foods (i.e. pasta, steak, mashed potatoes, French fries, apple pie) and still maintain blood glucose stabilization. The Death to Diabetes program is the only program that actually explains how to enjoy your favorite foods and still maintain proper blood glucose control.
The Death to Diabetes program is also a customizable program, not a one-size-fits-all program. Consequently, you can modify and customize the program to fit your specific health needs and lifestyle.
In addition, the Death to Diabetes program is a multi-faceted program. That is, the program uses multiple therapies to help you defeat your diabetes. Those therapies include: optimizing the nutrition, reducing the cellular inflammation, periodic detox, repairing the gut, balancing your hormones, blood glucose testing & data analysis, other blood testing & analysis, increasing your metabolism and energy levels, improving rest/sleep/relaxation quality, and providing emotional/spiritual support.
Good News!: This is the only diabetes nutritional program that explains how to enjoy some of your favorite foods and comfort foods -- after you have changed the chemistry in your body back to a non-diabetic state.
The following is a summary of the 10 steps of the Death to Diabetes Program to reverse Type 2 diabetes naturally.
This program will control, reverse and defeat your diabetes. These 10 steps are designed to work synergistically to reduce excess insulin production, reduce insulin resistance, increase glucose uptake, burn fat, and repair the sick cells by addressing the underlying biochemical and hormonal mechanisms that fuel Type 2 diabetes.
- Acquire knowledge about diabetes and its complications, nutrition, exercise, and drugs to increase your knowledge and provide direction on your journey to wellness and to reverse your diabetes. Visit your local library, go to medical-related websites, take classes, and talk to other (healthy) diabetics. [Ref: DTD Book Web Page]
- Eat the 5 “live” super foods (using the DtD Super Meal Plate Model), including green and bright-colored vegetables, dark-colored fruits, raw juices, sea vegetables, grasses, plant protein, plant oils, cold-water fish, legumes, lentils, beans, nuts, seeds, filtered water, and (some) organic whole grains. Drink raw juices in conjunction with eating plant-based super meals to optimize your nutritional program to reverse your diabetes faster. Buy a steamer, blender, juicer, Foreman grill, and grinder (for flaxseeds). [Ref: Super Foods Web Page]
- Stop eating the 5 “dead” processed foods, especially white flour, high fructose corn syrup, refined sugar, “enriched” foods, starches, trans fats, animal meat, vegetable oils, processed foods, fast foods, and drugs. Control, Stop and Then Reverse Your Diabetes
In order to reverse your diabetes, you must first get your diabetes under control and then stop its progression.
Specifically, you must use the 10 Steps of the DTD Reverse Diabetes Program as an overall planning guide to first get your diabetes and blood glucose under control.
Then, use the 10 Steps to gradually reduce the insulin resistance and cellular inflammation to stop the progression of the disease and stabilize your blood glucose.
And then, and only then, will you have the opportunity to use the 10 Steps to gradually begin to reverse your diabetes.
Key Point: If you do not get your diabetes under control and stop its progression, you don’t have a chance of reversing any aspects of the disease. Most programs jump from you being diabetic to reversing your diabetes -- if it was that simple, we wouldn't have so many diabetics and programs/books that don't work.
This program goes beyond just controlling your blood sugar to address the root causes that fuel your diabetes and cause the damage to your cells, blood vessels, and organs. As a result, your body is able to repair the damage, causing your blood glucose to return to the normal range and giving you the opportunity to reverse and defeat your diabetes.
This program uses a multi-faceted approach to attack your diabetes on multiple fronts, with super foods, detox, superior supplements, the right type of exercise, emotional support from our staff, spirituality, testing, the power of real knowledge, etc.
This program also leverages your blood glucose testing to verify to you that your health is actually improving. With this verification, you will be more motivated to continue with the program because of the results you're experiencing.
There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all wellness program! This is one of the reasons why the Death to Diabetes Wellness Program has 3 levels of severity.
Every person with diabetes is at a different stage with their disease once they decide to change their diet and lifestyle. Also, every person is affected differently by this disease and by the drugs they're taking.
In addition, some people with diabetes have to make drastic changes all at once because of the seriousness of their diabetes -- this is what happened to the author.
Consequently, because of all of these factors, the Death to Diabetes Wellness Program has 3 levels of severity. These 3 levels depend on how long you've been diabetic, how many complications you have, your age, and how many medications you're taking. The more sick you are, the more reason that you need to follow the more strict level of the program, i.e. Level 3.
Level 1: This is the base level of the program that most Type 2 diabetics can follow unless they have major complications and other health issues. This level of the program does not require organic foods, but does require 40-60% raw foods, lightly-steamed; some raw juicing at least 1-2 times a day; some animal meat (lean, no skin); some "dead" processed foods (2-3 servings a day); 3-4 meals/snacks a day; blood glucose testing 4-5 times a day; exercise 20-30 minutes a day, 4 times a week; detox at least once every 3-6 months; some emotional support; journaling, record-keeping. Although it is not necessary that you implement all 10 steps of the program, it is strongly recommended -- especially if you are experiencing diabetic complications with your eyes, kidneys, feet, or heart.
Level 2: This level of the program is for diabetics who may have one or more additional health issues. This level of the program requires some organic foods, 60-80% raw foods, lightly-steamed; more raw juicing at least 2-3 times a day; less animal meat (organic, free-range); some "dead" processed foods (1-2 servings a day); 4-5 meals/snacks a day; blood glucose testing 4-5 times a day; exercise 30-40 minutes a day, 4-5 times a week; detox at least once every 2-3 months; nutritional supplementation as required; daily emotional support; detailed journaling, record-keeping. Also, it is necessary that you implement all 10 steps of the program.
Level 3: This is the most stringent level of the program, reserved for Type 2 diabetics who want to reverse their diabetes in less than 90 days. This level of the program is also for Type 1 diabetics; and, for Type 2 diabetics who have multiple health problems and take a lot of drugs; and, also for people with other serious health issues such as cancer or heart disease. Mostly organic foods, 80-95% raw foods, lightly-steamed; a lot more raw juicing at least 4-6 times a day; no animal meat; no "dead" processed foods; no fast foods; no soda/diet soda/bottled fruit juices/coffee; no fried foods, no trans fats; no tap water; no vegetable oils; 4-7 meals/snacks a day; blood glucose testing 4-7 times a day; exercise 50-60 minutes a day, 4-6 times a week; detox at least once every 1-2 months; some wholefood/herbal tincture supplementation; daily emotional support; detailed journaling, record-keeping. Also, it is imperative that you implement all 10 steps of the program, especially the raw juicing and raw foods.
In general, most diabetics can follow the base Level 1 of the program in most cases. However, if you find yourself struggling or hitting a wall, then, you should move to Level 2. If you still struggle and as long as finances are not a concern, you should move to Level 3 of the program. Once you reach Stage 4, you can dial it down to Level 2 as long as you are able to maintain proper blood glucose stabilization. Once you reach Stage 6, you can dial it down to Level 1, again as long as you are able to maintain proper blood glucose stabilization.
Note 1: The 3 Levels of the program align with the 3 Levels of the diet.
Note 2: If you're going to implement Level 3 of the diet, we recommend that you get the Raw Food Diet and Power of Juicing books, along with the Death to Diabetes paperback book (or ebook); and, possibly, the diabetes cookbook, even though only some of the recipes (i.e salads, soups, stir-frys) in the cookbook are Level 3.
Note 3: If you have a lot of distractions, you may need to adopt a "Zero Dark Thirty" focus with your diet.
Urban Slang Definition: "Zero Dark Thirty" means "Going completely silent and avoidance of distracting/unsupportive family/friends, un-necessary relationships, social networking, and distractions until the ultimate goal (e.g. implementing a diet program, reversing your diabetes) is attained.
The Simply Raw videos have awakened many people to the power of eating raw to help heal their bodies. Refer to our Raw Food web page for more information. But, not everyone can eat raw foods every day for the rest of their lives! And, there's more to defeating diabetes than eating raw foods.
The Death to Diabetes Program goes beyond "eating raw" as there are multiple therapies for reversing Type 2 diabetes. Eating raw is one way to address the nutritional component of reversing your diabetes.
Although nutrition is one of the most important components, there are several other wellness components that a diabetic has to address beyond just "eating raw" -- if they truly want to reverse their diabetes permanently.
Some of those wellness components and activities that the Death to Diabetes Program addresses includes the following:
- The other foods can that a diabetic can eat besides "raw"
- How to shop for groceries properly
- How to safely wean off the drugs
- How to buy test strips (for free!)
- How to perform blood glucose testing the right way and without the pain
- How to get your doctor to work for you
- How to detox properly
- How to select nutritional supplements properly and not waste your money on the wrong supplements
- How to use spirituality to fight the stress of being diabetic
- How to deal with your family and friends who judge you for being diabetic, and don't really understand the frustration, fear, and anxiety of being diabetic
- How to juice properly (many diabetics juice the wrong foods!)
- How to make smoothies the right way
- How to build a support system
- How to perform meal planning effortlessly
- How to save money. Diabetes leads many people to bankruptcy and homelessness because of the medical debt created by Western Medicine.
Please Note: This is unfortunate, but some of our senior clients struggled with going raw. So, we had to provide other options for them in order to reverse their diabetes, i.e. lightly-steamed vegetables, vegetable juicing, green smoothies, detox, etc.
As depicted in the following diagram, in order to accelerate the body's cellrepair and healing processes, the DTD program utilizes multiple alternative therapies to increase your chances of reversing your diabetes.
The following Death to Diabetes books and ebooks address how to reverse your diabetes and how to use various altenrtive therapies to help you achieve optimum wellness.
Nutritional Therapy: Increase number of daily super meals and snacks (get the Death to Diabetes Cookbook). Also, read our web page about proper meal planning, preparation, and implementation. Meal Planning (and grocery-shopping) is the major area where most diabetics fail with their nutritional therapy.
Juicing Therapy: Add raw vegetable juicing to your nutritional program (get the DTD Juicing/Smoothies ebook).
Smoothie Therapy: Add green smoothies to your nutritional program (get the DTD Juicing/Smoothies ebook).
Detox Therapy: Perform periodic cleanse/detoxing (refer to Chapter 9 of the Death to Diabetes book, or get the DTD Detox ebook).
Cardio Therapy: Use the DTD Heart Attack/Stroke ebook, especially if you've already had a heart attack or stroke, or if you're having erectile dysfunction or other sexual performance issues. Also, use this ebook if you're overly concerned about preventing a heart attack or stroke.
Data Analysis: Increase blood glucose testing and analysis to make the necessary nutrition and lifestyle changes and corrections (refer to Chapters 11, 14, or get the DTD Blood Glucose Testing ebook).
Drug Weaning Therapy: Follow a safe and structured drug weaning process, as explained in the DTD Drug Weaning ebook.
Nutritional Supplementation Therapy: Add wholefood nutritional supplementation to your nutritional program (refer to Chapter 8 of the DTD book, or get the DTD Nutritional Supplementation ebook). Most people are wasting their money on vitamins and supplements! -- yeah, you, too!
Immune Therapy: Use the natural remedy strategies in the Autoimmune Alternative Therapies ebook to treat your thyroid and help balance and strengthen your immune system; and, treat various autoimmune diseases.
Weight Loss Therapy: Use the Death to Obesity Weight Loss ebook.
Wellness Therapy: Use the Wellness Protocols ebook.
Spiritual Therapy: Utilize meditation, yoga, or other spiritual methodology along with the Inner Spirit ebook.
Sleep Therapy: Ensure you're getting quality sleep (refer to Chapter 13 for sleeping tips).
Stress Therapy: Reduce the stress in your life (refer to Chapter 13 or get the Anti-Stress & Inner Spirit ebook).
Exercise Therapy: Increase exercise regimen, or add resistance/circuit training (refer to Chapter 10).
Boot Camp Therapy (Structure and Motivational): Use the comprehensive Boot Camp Program, but only if you have the strength and fortitude and are willing to change multiple aspects of your life and environment.
Day-to-Day Guidance Therapy: Use the 30-Day Diabetes Management Workbook to guide you on your daily activities from sunrise to sunset.
Health Coaching Therapy: Use coaching therapy to provide guidance and obtain expertise from someone who understands your health issues and is qualified to help you and can demonstrate his/her expertise.
Sauna Therapy, Aroma Therapy, etc.: Use other alternative therapies, but do your research first!
Level 3 Version of DTD Diet: Use the Death to Diabetes paperback book (or ebook) along with the Raw Food Diet ebook and Juicing/Smoothies ebook, plus any of the other ebooks that may apply to your specific situation, i.e. workbook, boot camp, meal planner, detox, auto-immunity, etc.
Note: Make sure that you avoid the insulin addiction trap discussed in Chapter 12 of the Death to Diabetes book.
Note: Refer to Chapter 6 of the Death to Diabetes book for a list of the top healing foods.
Please Note: When you start to follow the 10 steps of the Death to Diabetes program, your body will be in Stage 1 of the 6-stage recovery model. Gradually your body will begin to re-balance your hormones and reduce the insulin resistance so that your body requires less drugs and will progress to Stages 2 and 3. At that point, you should get the book (if you haven't yet) so that you can reach Stages 4, 5 and 6 to properly manage your diabetes, initiate the internal repair processes in your body, and possibly reverse your diabetes.
Author's Note 1: "Most people are aware that diet and exercise help to control their diabetes, and even slow down its progress, but it doesn't stop the disease (and the drugs) from causing more damage to your organs and blood vessels. This is a key point for diabetics who are doing a good job at controlling their diabetes with diet and exercise. I define this as "Stage 4" of my 6-stage diabetes recovery/ repair/reversal model. Diabetics who reach Stage 4 have a major opportunity to reach Stages 5 and 6, and actually eradicate the disease! -- instead of just controlling it."
Author's Note 2: "Some people are still eating the wrong foods, or they're eating so-called healthy foods that are not healthy! So, it is imperative that you educate yourself about the proper healthy foods so that you can successfully defeat your disease or prevent the disease from overtaking your body in the first place. You can also use the program to maintain your good health if you're not ill with any disease.
So, for those of you who are doing a good job at controlling your diabetes with diet and exercise (and no drugs), we recommend that you get the Death to Diabetes book -- so that you can get beyond Stage 4.
If you are doing a good job at controlling your diabetes with diet and exercise but you're still taking the drugs, we recommend that you get the Death to Diabetes book -- so that you can get beyond Stage 3.
And, if you already have the book, we recommend that you get the juicing book, the cookbook, boot camp program, or diabetes management workbook to help you continue on your journey from illness to wellness.
But, the one thing that you don't want to do -- don't relax and regress to eating the "dead" foods or your favorite comfort foods just because you've stabilized your blood sugar! At least, not until you've been completely been off the drugs for at least 6 months!
