God, Food and Healing

Author's Perspective: God, as the True Healer, has provided us with four key mechanisms to heal our bodies through His Name. During my diabetes lectures to various churches, I usually ask the congregation what are the 4 key mechanisms that God uses to help us heal our bodies from disease.

Most of the congregation are able to guess one of the mechanisms (prayer), but they are unable to figure out what the other three are.

I can't tell you the number of times I've heard people tell me that God will answer their prayers -- when, in fact, God had already answered their prayers, but they weren't listening to His message!

As a result, a lot of people sit around praying, waiting for God to answer them -- when God has already given them the answer!

So, instead of always praying to God, sometimes we should use meditation to listen to God and use our inner spirit.

There are many simple ways to tap into the power of healing of your Body and Mind by reading the Bible and tapping into your inner spirit.

When we get sick and end up in the hospital, we praise God for saving our lives, but, we continue to ignore His message! We refuse to change our eating habits and lifestyle and follow the Scriptures. Instead we rely on man's drugs and medications instead of God's super foods!

We also fail to use our brains to acquire the power of knowledge about nutrition, disease, and drugs. Instead of thinking and empowering ourselves, we give up our power to Man and his drugs.

p.s. So, if you haven't figured it out yet, the other 3 mechanisms are meditation, God's foods and our brains.

As Mr. McCulley (the ex-diabetic engineer and author) discovered during his near-death experience with diabetes, anyone of us can get sick at anytime -- even if we've never been sick or in the hospital.

Most of us are aware of the many diseases that can attack our bodies and in some cases, seriously disable us. The top diseases that are disabling or killing us include heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, obesity, high blood pressure, etc.

When Mr. McCulley was told there is no cure for diabetes, it didn't make sense to him that God would create a disease that had no cure. However, as Christians, we have an all-powerful God who has the power to fully heal us from any specific ailment that may strike us.

But, the mistake that some of us make is that we sit around waiting for God to heal us. Or we pray to God asking him to heal us -- when, in fact, God has already answered our prayers!

God provides 4 key mechanisms to help us heal our bodies from disease: (1) prayer, (2) meditation, (3) His super foods, and (4) using our brains given to us by God.

Prayer allows us to talk to God, but what good is prayer if we don't bother to listen to His message? Meditation is how we listen to God.

Sometimes, if we stop praying all the time and just listen (and observe), we'll hear His message.

God has created various super foods that contain the missing nutrients we need to fight diabetes and other diseases -- but, we fail to eat those foods! Instead, we opt for man's drugs and surgeries.

In addition, God has given each of us a brain to think and acquire the necessary knowledge to defeat any disease -- but, most of us fail to seek the knowledge!

God answers our prayers to help and heal us in several ways. Some of those ways include the following:

  • God sends his message of healing via the Bible
  • God identifies His many super foods in the Bible
  • God sends his message to other people, who go out and help others
  • God gives a disease to someone that He wants to go out and help others
  • God creates an event that forces people to help others in need
  • God has given us a brain to allow us to think and acquire the necessary knowledge to successful fight any disease

Key Point: If you believe in God, then, you should listen to Him and eat his Super foods by following this diabetes program.

The Death to Diabetes Story

After Mr. McCulley recovered from his near-death diabetic coma, he was asked to speak at a local church about his miraculous recovery.

During one of his lectures, a woman told Mr. McCulley: "Thank you for sharing your story, but I'm waiting on God to heal me." Then, another woman spoke up and said, "Maybe God sent this man so that we can heal ourselves."

I'm sure many of you have heard the story about the man sitting on top of his roof after a major flood. When a helicopter and then a boat came by to rescue him, both times the man said: "Thank you, but God will come to rescue me."

When the man drowned and went to heaven, he was angry and upset and asked God: "Why have you forsaken me?" And, God said: "I did not forsaken you -- I sent a helicopter and a boat to save you."

You see, many times, we have been saved or blessed by God, but, because we're not paying attention or because we're expecting God to save us in a specific way, we miss His message or the rescue.

When we pray, it is our way of talking to God. But, sometimes we need to shut up and listen to God. Meditation is one way of listening to God.

The Author's Nightmare (Dream)

Dreams may be another mechanism -- according to the author's mother. While the author was in the hospital, he kept having nightmares about being in a graveyard. He thought it was a sign that he was going to die.

But, his mother assured him that God was speaking to him through his dreams. In the dream, the author was walking towards a gravestone and he could see that the first letter on the gravestone was a "D". He thought the "D" was representing the first letter in his name (DeWayne). So he would wake up from the nightmare because he didn't want to see his name on the gravestone.

But, his mother told him to stop waking up and continue walking towards the gravestone. Finally, DeWayne worked up the courage in his dream and walked up to the gravestone.

And, as he walked closer toward the headstone, DeWayne discovered that the word on the headstone was not his name, but the word "Diabetes".

Death to Diabetes Book Cover Photo of Graveyard

At that time, the author didn't understand the significance of the words on the headstones. But a couple years later, when he was struggling with the title for his book and what picture to put on the front cover of the book, his mother reminded him of the dream about the graveyard.

That's when the author realized that the cover of his book should be a graveyard scene with 3 headstones labeled "High Blood Pressure", "Diabetes", and "Obesity".

Concerning the title of the book, the author realized that he should select a popular title, something like "Reverse Your Diabetes" or "Living with Diabetes." But, he felt that those titles didn't fully convey the seriousness of this disease.

So, with his daughter's help, he came up with the title "Death to Diabetes", signifying that the disease should be in the graveyard instead of the people who were dying from this disease.

From a marketing perspective, the experts told Mr. McCulley that the title was too negative and confusing -- no one would get the subtlety of his hidden message. In addition, from a Google and search engine perspective, the experts told Mr. McCulley that very few people will find his book because the phrase was too unique and uncommon.

Author Sidebar: At the time I was writing my book, I was more focused on my research and ensuring that the content of my book would actually help people. I was very naive about marketing a book and didn't think it was that important. I realize now that more people would find my book if the title had the words "reverse diabetes" in it. But, even if I knew what the experts knew, I still don't think that I would have changed the book title or the cover photo.

There are several principles that we need to learn if we really want to understand how God works.

The first thing you have to really grasp is how good and merciful God and Jesus really are. Every time God decides to heal someone, He is showing incredible mercy, love, goodness and compassion towards that person.

If you do not believe that God is a good, merciful, loving, kind and compassionate God – then you won't be paying attention when a stranger comes along with a message of healing that came from God! We assume that God is going to heal us directly but that's not always the case.

    Bible Verses

Here are some Bible verses that reinforce that God is merciful.

“The Lord is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in mercy.” Psalm 103:8

“The Lord is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and great in mercy. The Lord is good to all, and His tender mercies are over all His works.” Psalm 145:8

God Has the Power to Heal You

Sometimes when someone has been hit by an extreme sickness or disease, especially with one that may be considered terminal, our faith levels may be severely shaken – possibly to their core! You have been just diagnosed with terminal cancer and the doctors have told you that you only have 6 more months to live.

Though you know God is all-powerful – your situation looks so hopeless, that you start doubting whether or not God can really deliver you out of such a dire, extreme and hopeless situation.

You are so overwhelmed by the hopelessness of the situation, that you start forgetting how powerful God really is and that He does have the supernatural power to be able to fully heal you – no matter how grave the situation may appear to you in the natural.

These next two verses are telling us that nothing is too impossible for God to be able to handle. Again, these verses should be burned into your memory banks so you can have them fully loaded up into your mind and spirit if you are ever faced with what appears to be insurmountable odds.

“For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37

But He said, “The things which are impossible with men are possible with God.” Luke 18:27

God Will Also Anoint You With His Power to Heal

Not only does God want to heal you, not only does His Son Jesus Christ want to heal you – but now God wants to take it one step further. He now wants to anoint His believers with the power of knowledge to help and heal others.

Do you get the big picture on all of this? If God is wanting to anoint His believers with His supernatural power to be able to heal others – then this is telling us that God is now placing the gift of healing as a major blessing within His Body so we can have it available to us when we may need it.

The reason for this is because God wants to anoint and empower His people to be able to go to work for Him in preaching the gospel to the rest of the world and doing what He wants them to be doing in their specific calls for Him.

You cannot work for God full force in this life if you are constantly battling one ailment after another. You have to be operating in some kind of good health in order to be able to max out in your specific calls and duties for the Lord.

Sometimes God will choose to heal you through the doctors and medical profession – other times He will heal you through your church pastor, priest, or other church leader, or through the prayers of other anointed believers. Or, He may heal you through other people who themselves have been healed by Him.

And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe: in My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.” Mark 16:15

“Then He called His twelve disciples together and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.” Luke 9:1

“And He called the twelve to Him, and began to send them out two by two, and gave them power over unclean spirits … And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them.” Mark 6:7,13

“And when He had called His twelve disciples to Him, He gave them power over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to heal all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease.” Matthew 10:1

    The Power of Prayer

By direct prayer to God – and sometimes that prayer has to be a prevailing type of prayer, which means you keep praying to God until you get the healing to fully manifest onto the affected part of your body that needs the healing.

There are many different types of prayer strategies that you can take with the Lord in your own personal prayers to Him. But, don't forget to not only pray to God, but listen to Him!!

“Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray.” James 5:13

“Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.” James 5:14

Having faith is very powerful -- it "connects" the Body, Mind & Spirit to drive you to change your poor eating habits and help heal you. If you continue to eat poorly, your Body will not be healed.

    Hindrances to Receiving a Healing

Sometimes God will not move to heal someone due to some type of block or hindrance. Once this person finds out what that block or hindrance is and gets it properly removed, then many of the time God will move back in to fully heal them.

The following verses will give you some major insight into what some of these hindrances and blocks can be. Again, study these verses very carefully and make sure you do not have any of these possible hindrances before approaching God for your own personal healing.

    1. The first block, and this is a major one, is the sin of unforgiveness. As you will see in the following Scripture verse, God the Father will not even begin to hear any of your prayers if you are holding any kind of unforgiveness towards anyone. And if He will not hear any of your personal prayers – then you will have little or no chance of getting any type of divine healing from Him.

If you are operating in this specific sin and are holding any type of serious grudges or unforgiveness towards anyone else – then you will need to go before God the Father, confess this sin out, and then tell Him that you will now fully forgive all of the specific people who have ever wronged you in your past.

Tell Him that even though you may not “feel” like you are forgiving these people within your own mind and emotions – tell Him that you are now taking a bold step of faith and that you will make this confession with your mouth, out of your mind, and that you will do your best not to hold the past against these people.

If you are willing to take this kind of powerful stand with the Lord, then over the course of time God will start to take out the negative emotions of that unforgiveness, and pretty soon you will no longer even feel this unforgiveness towards that person like you had in the past. God will do inner, spiritual surgery on the inside of you to remove all of those negative feelings.

“AND WHENEVER YOU STAND PRAYING, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father in heaven forgive your trespasses.” Mark 11:25

    2. If you are out cheating on your spouse operating in the sin of adultery, then there is a very good chance that God may not hear any of your prayers. And if God is not hearing any of your personal prayers to Him, then you may not be able to receive a divine healing from Him when you try asking Him for one.

So if you are really serious about wanting to approach God the Father for a divine healing, the first thing you must do is make sure that you do not have any sins that may need to be forgiven and washed clean under the Blood of Jesus. You may want to ask the Holy Spirit to help you out. Ask Him to show you if there are any sins that you may not be aware of that will need to be confessed, forgiven, and washed clean under the blood of Jesus.

One of the main reasons why more people do not receive divine healings from the Lord may be due to sins that may not have yet been forgiven because they have not been recognized as actual sins, or that person is unwilling to have their sins be properly dealt with by God the Father.

A person may be operating in the sin of adultery and he simply does not want to give it up. And until he does, there is a very good chance that God will not be hearing any of his prayers, especially in the area of divine healing.

So, for anyone who is seeking after a major, supernatural miracle from God in the area of divine healing – that you ask the Holy Spirit to help you out in discovering what those sins may be that will need to be confessed and forgiven with God the Father. This principle right here may be the difference as to whether or not you receive a full, divine healing from the Lord.

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear.” Isaiah 59:2

“The Lord is far from the wicked, but He hears the prayer of the righteous.” Proverbs 15:29

“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11

    Psychological Factors Prevent Healing

There are sometimes psychological factors that will come into play when dealing with different types of sicknesses and illnesses.

If someone is severely depressed, there is a good chance that there immune system may not be working as well as it should be, and they thus can be more subject and prone to getting certain types of sicknesses or diseases as compared to someone who is always upbeat, happy, cheerful and doing something positive with their lives.

The world of alternative medicine has already found this link – that sometimes good health can be directly related to having a good, positive mindset. The Bible has several very interesting verses on this mind-body connection and how it can relate to our physical health.

“A sound heart is life to the body, but envy is rottenness to the bones.” Proverbs 14:30

“Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but when the desire comes, it is a tree of life.” Proverbs 13:12

“A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.” Proverbs 15:13

“A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.” Proverbs 17:22

“Anxiety in the heart of a man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad.” Proverbs 12:25

“There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.” Proverbs 12:18

“Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones.” Proverbs 16:24

God Provides the Recipe for Healing Through His Food

God tells us in the Bible what we should eat to be healthy. If you continue to eat poorly, your Body will not be healed.

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food. Genesis 1:29

Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than a fattened ox and hatred with it. Proverbs 15:17

And to every beast of the earth and to every bird of the heavens and to everything that creeps on the earth, everything that has the breath of life, I have given every green plant for food.” And it was so. Genesis 1:30

It is good not to eat meat or drink wine or do anything that causes your brother to stumble. Romans 14:21

Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything. Genesis 9:3

And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, These are the living things that you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth. Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. Nevertheless, among those that chew the cud or part the hoof, you shall not eat these: The camel, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. And the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you ... Leviticus 11:1-47

When we have a personal problem, many of us seek advice and guidance from our pastors, priests and other church leaders.

Ironically, many of our church leaders are suffering with diabetes, heart disease, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol.

But, instead of relying on God's super foods, the majority of these "men of God" rely on Man's prescription medications!

In addition, very seldom do you hear a sermon about the importance of nutrition and taking care of our bodies. Do you see the irony or disconnect in this?

Genesis 1:29 And God said, Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. Gods Super Foods!

We have taken the seed out of our diet nearly 100%. The seed is supposed to be a main course in our diet, just like it is among the cultures talked about in the video tape whom never get cancer.

Ezekiel 4:9 Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself.

The recipe for Ezekiel bread has key nutrients in it and was given as the key food for Ezekiel while he was to lay on his side for 390 days.

Daniel 1:8 But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank...

Daniel 1:12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse (lima beans) to eat, and water to drink.

Daniel 1:15 And at the end of the ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

    Daniel in the Lions Den

Daniel had knowledge from our Creator about what was in the food the king ate as well as what God had told him to eat. So Daniel asked to test the food by letting him and his three friends eat what God said to eat and the other people were to eat the king's meat. After ten days Daniel and his friends are found to be healthier than those who eat at the king's table.

Here are some other Bible verses about food, plants and herbs:

Genesis 9:3 Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

Revelation 22:2 Through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Ezekiel 47:12 And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”

1 Corinthians 3:17 If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him. For God's temple is holy, and you are that temple.

Genesis 1:29 And God said: Behold I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.

Ezekiel 4:9 Take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and spelt; put them in a storage jar and use them to make bread for yourself.

Daniel 8:12 Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse (lima beans) to eat, and water to drink.

Daniel 1:15 And at the end of the ten days their countenances appeared fairer and fatter in flesh than all the children which did eat the portion of the king's meat.

So, the Bible tells us what we should eat and what not to eat; yet, we ignore this. Why? Part of it is due to the constant messages we receive via television, radio, newspapers and other media. We are constantly bombarded by TV commercials that tell us to go to McDonald's, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

And, then, we are further bombarded by TV commercials that ells us to see our doctor about a specific prescription drug.

So, eating man's junk food and taking his drugs to compensate has become the norm, not just for the gneral public, but, for our church leaders as well.

The Bible also mentions the importance of knowledge, for, without it, we will perish, i.e. get sick and die from eating all the dead food and taking all the man-made drugs and other pills.

Hosea 4:6 "My people perish for lack of knowledge."

This is a powerful verse that the author of "Death to Diabetes" references in his book and on his website. The author believes that we can improve our health, wealth, and any area of our life with the Power of Knowledge.

    The Sin of Gluttony

This next topic will be a very sensitive one for many people in this day and age. There are many in our society who are grossly overweight or diabetic. For many of these people, there are certain malfunctions within their bodies causing this abnormal weight gain. However, for many others, this weight gain is the result of simply gluttony – overeating of the wrong kinds of foods.

With all of the good, nutritional information that is now available, we all know what these bad foods are. There is also a ton of educational material that is out there showing us what the good foods are and how to structure our diets accordingly to take off a lot of this excess weight.

However, for whatever their personal reasons may be, many people who are overweight simply do not care they are overeating and that they are grossly overweight.

God may have been striving with them, trying to get them to get their eating habits under better control. However, sooner or later, the human body can only take so much abuse, especially in the area of what we feed it – and then the breakdown comes.

A cancer or diabetes could set in or a major heart attack could occur. There are many different kinds of sicknesses and illnesses that can strike your body if you do not properly feed it and take proper care of it.

The Bible tells us that our bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit. God the Father wants us taking proper care of our bodies. If we do not, and we steadfastly refuse to heed His warnings and promptings – then God may choose not to want to heal you if you end up coming down with a major sickness as a result of deliberately overeating and abusing your body over all of those years.

The same thing can occur for those who smoke or drink past any reasonable moderation. In our walk with the Lord, we have to do the best we can with what we are suppose to be doing for Him.

God has designed our bodies to start giving you major warning signs and signals that you are getting to far off base with your health. If after a certain amount of time you do not heed those warnings and you keep going in the direction you are going – then God could pull back His hand of protection on you, and you could then end up coming down with a major sickness or disease.

Remember – some of the above verses state that if you do what is right in the sight of the Lord – then He will not put any of these diseases on you. Going against the Lord by overeating and abusing your body is not doing what is right in the Lord, and He thus could pull back His hand of protection on you and your life.

Here is one very interesting verse that tells us to only eat what we really need lest we be filled with it and vomit. In other words, you can get physically sick by overeating.

“Have you found honey? Eat only as much as you need, lest you be filled with it and vomit.” Proverbs 25:16

If you closely study all of the above verses from Scripture, the evidence is absolutely overwhelming that God the Father really does want to heal many of the times if He is properly approached in your prayers to Him.

However, there is one more big debate going on in the Body of Christ right now on the subject of divine healing. Many are teaching that it is the will of God that you be healed every single time that you pray and ask for one – and that if you are not healed – then there is something wrong with you. Either your faith was not operating at a high enough level, or you have some kind of bad sin that you may be living in.

Granted, there are times that God may want your faith operating at a higher level than where you may be at right now. If that is the case, then He may want you getting more into the Word to study all of the verses pertaining to divine healing before He will move in to heal you. You also could have some type of sin as discussed above that needs to be taken care of before He will move in to heal you.

But what about the Christian who is already operating at a very high level of faith and they have a clean slate with the Lord with no sins that really need to be confessed and forgiven? How do you explain it when they are doing everything right in the Lord, and then all of a sudden they need a physical healing for their own self and God does not heal them. How do you explain this kind of scenario with the way all of the above Scripture verses are worded?

God is still sovereign in all of His ways – which will include when He will manifest the gift of healing on someone. The Bible says that we can only know in part while living down here on this earth. Sometimes God will tell us why He does what He does and other times He will not.

If God makes a personal decision not to heal someone when they are properly approaching Him in prayer for their healing – then there is always a specific reason as to why He is choosing not to heal this person at that time. Sometimes He will tell you what that reason may be and other times He will not. If He chooses not to tell you, then you have to have full faith and belief that He must have a very good reason for not wanting to heal you or the person you may be praying for and to let it go at that.

Though there are times God will decide not to heal for whatever His personal reasons may be – there are definitely going to be other times that He will move in to heal if He is properly approached in your prayers to Him. Since God is sovereign in His very nature and in all of His ways – this means you never know when He may move in to heal someone.

This is why you should never be afraid to approach God’s throne boldly and with confidence if either you or someone else you know is needing a physical healing from Him. You have nothing to lose in trying and everything to gain by pressing in.

Food and proper nutrition are mentioned throughout the Bible and other religious books.

    Bible Verses & Nutrition

Here are some of the Bible verses that mention the importance of food and nutrition.

    1 Corinthians 6:19-20

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

    Genesis 1:29

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

    Genesis 9:3

Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

    Proverbs 23:20-21

Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat, for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.

    John 6:35

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

    Matthew 4:4

But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

    Proverbs 23:20

Be not among drunkards or among gluttonous eaters of meat,

    Leviticus 11:1-47

And the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron, saying to them, “Speak to the people of Israel, saying, These are the living things that you may eat among all the animals that are on the earth. Whatever parts the hoof and is cloven-footed and chews the cud, among the animals, you may eat. Nevertheless, among those that chew the cud or part the hoof, you shall not eat these: The camel, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you. And the rock badger, because it chews the cud but does not part the hoof, is unclean to you.

    Deuteronomy 8:3

And he humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that he might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

    Proverbs 30:8-9

Remove far from me falsehood and lying; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with the food that is needful for me, lest I be full and deny you and say, “Who is the Lord?” or lest I be poor and steal and profane the name of my God.

    Leviticus 7:23

“Speak to the people of Israel, saying, You shall eat no fat, of ox or sheep or goat.

    Leviticus 7:23-24

“Speak to the people of Israel, saying, You shall eat no fat, of ox or sheep or goat. The fat of an animal that dies of itself and the fat of one that is torn by beasts may be put to any other use, but on no account shall you eat it.

    Daniel 1:11-16

Then Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had assigned over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Test your servants for ten days; let us be given vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance and the appearance of the youths who eat the king's food be observed by you, and deal with your servants according to what you see.” So he listened to them in this matter, and tested them for ten days. At the end of ten days it was seen that they were better in appearance and fatter in flesh than all the youths who ate the king's food.

    Ezekiel 4:9

“And you, take wheat and barley, beans and lentils, millet and emmer, and put them into a single vessel and make your bread from them. During the number of days that you lie on your side, 390 days, you shall eat it.

    Isaiah 25:6

On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.

    Ephesians 5:18

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,

    John 12:24

Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit.

    Daniel 1:1-21

In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. And the Lord gave Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, with some of the vessels of the house of God. And he brought them to the land of Shinar, to the house of his god, and placed the vessels in the treasury of his god. Then the king commanded Ashpenaz, his chief eunuch, to bring some of the people of Israel, both of the royal family and of the nobility, youths without blemish, of good appearance and skillful in all wisdom, endowed with knowledge, understanding learning, and competent to stand in the king's palace, and to teach them the literature and language of the Chaldeans. The king assigned them a daily portion of the food that the king ate, and of the wine that he drank. They were to be educated for three years, and at the end of that time they were to stand before the king.

    Acts 27:33-34

As day was about to dawn, Paul urged them all to take some food, saying, “Today is the fourteenth day that you have continued in suspense and without food, having taken nothing. Therefore I urge you to take some food. For it will give you strength, for not a hair is to perish from the head of any of you.”

    John 3:12

If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things?

    Jeremiah 15:16

Your words were found, and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O Lord, God of hosts.

    Food & Religion

Many of the features that shape dietary habits are derived from religious laws. All over the world many people choose to eat or avoid certain foods according to their religious beliefs. When a dietary practice is preserved by religious dogma it is given additional force.

Dietary differences linked to religion should be considered when planning a balanced diet.

Refer to the Death to Diabetes Blog for details about some of the major religions and their specific guidance regarding food, and how they impact eating habits.

The following verses indicate that the simple diet chosen by Daniel was vegetables and water. Nearly all Bible translations interpret this diet using either the words vegetables, pulse or even grain. The King James version chose the word pulse. The actual word translated here is zeroa' (zeraim) which refers to seeds. Zera is the very same word used in Genesis 1:29. The word pulse is used in some translations because pulse is actual edible seeds like legumes and those seeds from pods.

But Daniel made up his mind that he would not defile himself with the king's choice food or with the wine which he drank; so he sought permission from the commander of the officials that he might not defile himself.

Daniel said to the overseer whom the commander of the officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, "Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink.

"Then let our appearance be observed in your presence and the appearance of the youths who are eating the king's choice food; and deal with your servants according to what you see."

So he listened to them in this matter and tested them for ten days. Daniel 1:8-14

The Daniel Diet was not a different diet than the Bible diet passed from generation to generation since Adam. Daniel simply requested the diet he knew to be right. However, during this 10-day test and subsequent training, Daniel and his three friends restricted themselves to the the first two classes of our four Bible food groups.

Daniel did not have extra-biblical instructions to restrict his diet to, say, lentils and water. Without doubt, Daniel and his companions availed themselves of the most vibrant, colorful fruits and vegetables grown in the fertile Mesopotamian soil.

For review, here is the verse from Genesis which Daniel relied upon when choosing his food:

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb yielding seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for food. Genesis 1:29

Note 1: every tree whose yield bears seed
Examples: apples, avocados, grapefruit, pecans, papaya, cherries, olives, walnuts

Note 2. every plant whose yield bears seed
Examples: tomatoes, beans, lentils, wheat, berries, squash, corn, rye

Daniel could have chosen to eat clean animal meat and drinks other than water. These were not forbidden in the Levitical dietary laws. However, the king's meat did not meet the standards for health. The food was offered to idols. This did not make the meat unclean in itself, but offering the meat to idols made it common. The children of Israel were also forbidden to eat common foods because they were called apart for a high purpose and so are we. See Deuteronomy 14:21.

In the Bible, wine may refer to either fermented drink or pure juice. The wines of the king were likely fermented and also poured out tributary to the the gods of Babylon. The food and wine themselves became desirous idols for gluttony. Daniel was captive in a foreign land because his people had fallen into similar practices. He had no taste to be associated with idolatry in any form.

The king's food was sensual and detrimental, but fruits and vegetables with seed are cleansing. There is little doubt that a 10 day test would have revealed this. From what we know of Daniel, he faced tests and challenges with prayer. Daniel dined at the real King's table. He was not ashamed to petition God. Actually, he would rather face a den of hungry lions than to forfeit his right ask of God. If we do not ask, we do not directly receive. Daniel understood this.

At the end of ten days their appearance seemed better and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king's choice food.

So the overseer continued to withhold their choice food and the wine they were to drink, and kept giving them vegetables.

As for these four youths, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in every branch of literature and wisdom; Daniel even understood all kinds of visions and dreams.

Then at the end of the days which the king had specified for presenting them, the commander of the officials presented them before Nebuchadnezzar.

The king talked with them, and out of them all not one was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king's personal service.

As for every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king consulted them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and conjurers who were in all his realm.

And Daniel continued until the first year of Cyrus the king. Daniel 1:15-21

When we get sick, I mean really sick, we pray to God for His help to heal us from the disease. Then, we sit around waiting on God to come through.

But, God has already told us in many ways how to heal ourselves from most diseases!

    The Bible
First of all, we need to stop thumping the Bible and start reading the Bible! There are thousands of passages in the Bible and other similar books that explain what foods we should be eating if we want to be healthy!

In addition, we need to stop praying so much asking God for help, when He has already given us His help! We need to learn how to listen to God (i.e. meditation) because, in many cases, He has already given us the solution to our problem!

But, we ignore these messages, and, we run to the doctor for a magic pill that just makes us even sicker! The drug may work temporarily but, in the long term, the drug does more harm than good.

To make matters worse, many pastors and church leaders fail to preach any sermons about the Power of God's super foods! Ironically, many pastors, church leaders, and church members continue to suffer unnecessarily with heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, and other diseases!

Chlorophyll is the green pigment molecule in plants and is responsible for absorbing the sun's energy for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is also one of the most powerful healing nutrients that helps to reduce insulin resistance and remove toxins from the body.

However, chlorophyll is not the only nutrient that can reduce insulin resistance and remove toxins from the body. There are many other powerful healing nutrients that help us in our fight against diabetes and other diseases. So, why focus on this one nutrient to discuss here?

Chlorophyll produces the food that plants need for survival. Hemoglobin carries the nutrients (including oxygen) that are essential to human life.

Here is a diagram that represents the chlorophyll molecule in plants and the hemoglobin molecule in man's blood.

Interesting Biological Observation: If you're into science, you may find this fascinating: The chlorophyll molecule in plants is chemically similar to the hemoglobin molecule in human blood!

Chlorophyll and hemoglobin contain almost identical oxygen, carbon, nitrogen, and hydrogen atoms. Both molecules contain a central metal atom, magnesium (Mg) for chlorophyll and iron (Fe) for hemoglobin.

In both cases, the metal atoms are encircled by a structure including four nitrogen atoms. Also the metal atoms exhibit a valence or oxidation number of +2.

Both chlorophyll and hemoglobin possess four pyrrole rings. Pyrrole is a 5-member ring consisting of four carbon atoms and one nitrogen atom with two double bonds in each ring.

So, the only difference between the chlorophyll molecule and the hemoglobin molecule is that the central atom in chlorophyll is magnesium, whereas the central atom in hemoglobin is iron.

Do you think the similarities between plants and man's blood is a coincidence?

Do you think it's a coincidence that these green super foods created by God have the power to protect and repair our bodies from disease?

The chlorophyll within green vegetables can detoxify and purify the blood and liver, help build red blood cells and aid in tissue repair.

FYI: Chlorella and spirulina are blue-green algae superfoods that contain very high levels of chlorophyll and a plethora of vitamins, minerals, fiber, EFAs, peptides, and nucleic acids, giving this food the ability to cleanse and detoxify the colon, liver, and blood as well strengthen the immune system.

Question: So, if these super foods created by God are so powerful, why do we run to the doctor to get a prescription drug created by Man? Is Man smarter than God? (Of course not!) But, why do so many of us including church leaders take prescription drugs???

People, we need to wake up!

Now, for those of you who don't read the Bible, there is another way that God has told us how to heal ourselves from most diseases.

God's super foods include vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes and lentils. Green vegetables and bright-colored vegetables contain many micronutrients that help to nourish and heal the human body, i.e. carotenoids, chlorophyll, magnesium, fiber, Vitamin C, etc.

Coincidentally(?),God placed His sign on the food -- it's called His "Signature". Signature stands for "Sign of Nature". This philosophy (called the "Doctrine of Signatures") says that plants look like the body part that they're meant to heal, nourish and support.

Many scientists call this "sign of nature" philosophy a bunch of hogwash, superstition and mere coincidence. They believe that only their drugs can heal the body! Hmm-mm -- maybe that's hogwash ...

Healthcare professionals in the natural health arena believe God left us these clues on purpose so we could nourish our bodies.

Take a look and read through the list below and decide for yourself … do raw super foods contain clues from God?

    1. Sliced Carrots:
They look like the human eye (complete with pupil, iris and radiating lines), and research shows carrots enhance blood flow and function of the eyes.

    2. Tomatoes:
Like your heart, a tomato has four chambers and is red. Tomatoes contain lycopene, which is excellent for your heart.

    3. Grapes:
A cluster of grapes is shaped like your heart, and each grape could be a blood cell. Science shows that grapes are nourishing for your heart and blood.

    4. Walnuts:
These wrinkly nuts look like little brains, which makes sense considering walnuts help develop more than three dozen neurotransmitters for brain function, and are a rich source of brain-healthy Omega-3 fats.

    5. Kidney Beans:
Of course these look like your kidneys, and they contain nutrients that can help maintain and heal kidney function. Kidney beans are also an excellent source of the trace mineral, molybdenum. This mineral helps detoxify sulfites, a type of preservative added to many foods (and to which many people are sensitive), from the body.

    6. Celery, Bok Choy and Rhubarb:
These and other rigged, ribbed veggies resemble your bones. They are also 23 percent sodium -- just like your bones -- which is important since your body will pull sodium from your bones if it doesn't get enough from your diet.

    7. Avocadoes, Eggplant and Pears:

Ever notice how these raw foods resemble a woman's womb and cervix? Well, eating one avocado a week has been found to help balance hormones, prevent cervical cancer and help women shed birth weight. Ironically, it also takes nine months for an avocado to grow from blossom to ripened fruit.

    8. Figs:
These fruits are full of seeds and hang in twos while growing. They're also known to increase the number and mobility of sperm and help overcome male infertility.

    9. Sweet Potatoes:
These veggies look like your pancreas and help to stabilize your blood sugar levels and lower insulin resistance. They're even known as an "anti-diabetic" food.

    10. Olives:
Shaped much like a woman's ovaries, olives actually support the function of the ovaries.

    11. Oranges, Grapefruits and Other Citrus:
These resemble mammary glands, and the fruits assist the health of the breasts.

    12. Onions:
These look like your body's cells, and science shows that onions help to remove waste materials from your body's cells.

Now, for those of you who don't believe in God or a Higher Power, then, there's science! And, scientific studies have demonstrated the power of food and nutrients such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, CoQ10, and Omega-3s.

FYI: The "other side" of the God-Food-Healing Connection is the Food-Drugs-Disease Connection, discussed in the Death to Diabetes Blog.

It's ironic that people say they live their life according to the Word of God, but they eat processed foods and dead foods that go against what's in the Bible!

Here's one of Mr. McCulley's many stories about the church, God, and food.

During a presentation to a church congregation, Mr. McCulley said to the congregation: "Raise your hand if you truly believe and trust in God."

Every single person in the congregation raised their hand.

Then, after putting their hands down, Mr. McCulley said: "Raise your hand if you're diabetic. A lot of hands went up.

Then, Mr. McCulley said: "Keep your hand up. Now, raise your hand if you have high blood pressure or high cholesterol. A lot more hands went up.

Then, Mr. McCulley said: "Given all of you with diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol, how many of you take some kind of medication? Keep your hand up if you take any kind of medication. Almost all of the hands remained up.

Then, Mr. McCulley said: "You just told me that you believe and trust in God, but, instead of relying on the Super Foods created by God, we rely on the drugs created by Man!

This created a major buzz throughout the congregation, plus a lot of Amens.

After his speech, several church leaders and members of the congregation admitted that no one had ever explained the "connection" between God, His message, and His food the way that Mr. McCulley explained it.

Unfortunately, we have a lot of Bible-thumpers who praise God, but ignore His message about proper nutrition!

It's so sad: Mr. McCulley says that he can "feel" the suffering and the impending death in the room as he walks into a church and looks over the congregation.

Food for Thought: Why are there so few sermons about nutrition and God's super foods?

Bottom-line: It's easy to praise God ... but, it's more difficult to actually follow His Word -- especially when it comes to food ...

If you believe in God as our Creator with the Power to heal our bodies, then, you should eat his super foods that He designed to be used as medicine to heal our bodies.

Unfortunately, the world around you is designed to keep you from knowing and benefiting from God's Power and healing super foods.

As stated in Hosea 4:6: My people perish for lack of knowledge.

The lack of knowledge (along with the lack of motivation and hope) prevents you from beating your diabetes and getting well!

So, if you're tired of being ignorant and lacking the knowledge, then, start your journey to wellness with the ex-diabetic engineer's book, Death to Diabetes.  If you're fully ready, then, start with his Power of Raw Juicing book instead.

He almost died from a diabetic coma, but, credits God, his mother and his daughter for his miraculous recovery from a blood sugar of 1337 and 4 insulin shots a day. If he can beat this disease, so can you ...
